SUVs emit roughly between 29% to 47% more CO and 75% to 175% more NOx (not to mention all the other crap) than ordinary cars. Not only does this cause global warming but it also give people who are having to breath in these exhaust fumes all sorts of respiratory problems.
The law permits SUVs to waste 33% more gas than passenger cars. Plus they vomit up more than 30% more carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons along with 75% more nitrogen oxides. Because of all this, Americans have wasted 70 billion gallons of gas since 1990.
If you own an SUV and crash into someone. That person is twice as likely to die than if you were driving an ordinary car. SUVs are four times more likely to roll over in the event of an accident. When the SUV does roll over the passangers are three times more likely to die. If it weren't for SUVs, two thousand people would still be alive if they were hit a regular car rather than an SUV.
Strangley, for some reason, only 80% of drivers feels that car makers ought to improve safety features of SUVs so that they are safer for the occupants. Does that mean the other 20% don't want the improvements to be made or they simply are in denial as to whether there is a problem in the first place.
Then there's the mentality of these drivers. As if the environment and accidents aren't enough, there's also an attitude these people have. They are always driving too close to the car in front as if to say "I',e bigger and better than you. Get the fuck out of my way you bastard."
"Our approach to SUVs and the environment has not always been responsible," William Clay Ford Jr., Company Chairman
